Police Chief in Omega, Georgia, Indicted on Federal Civil Rights Charges

WASHINGTON – The Justice Department announced today that a federal grand jury in Macon, Ga., returned a one-count indictment against Walter Young, 54, police chief of the Omega Police Department, for physically abusing a man in his custody.

The indictment alleges that, on March 24, 2011, Young, while acting in his capacity as the chief of police, assaulted “A.M.”, a pretrial detainee, thereby violating the civil rights of the detainee. The indictment further charges that A.M. suffered bodily injury as a result of Young’s use of excessive force.

If convicted, the defendant faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. An indictment is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

This case is being investigated by the FBI, and is being prosecuted by Special Litigation Counsel Forrest Christian and Trial Attorney Tona Boyd of the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert McCullers of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Georgia.

What did she do?

This is the type of thing that occurs when police with guns get carried away.  Most police are good people, but I was flabbergasted to be abused by police, who I usually get along with just the other day.  An overweight black woman, wearing a police uniform was at The Motel One.  I walked down to the corner and crossed and bought a pack of cigars from the merchant across this tall , WITH NO NAME TAG, SHORT CURLY dark brown hair and dark brown eyes.  She is black racially.  The Man with her, in a separate Columbus Police car seemed to be more reasonable and I gave them my name and Social Security number.  He was explaining that they were there because of reports of a drug cartel operating in that area and wanted to know how long we lived in the area.

Why would guns be issued to mentally ill peopple, whether they
are black, and part of 'black power' or white?

An informant said that they thought this woman was part of a police gang known as The Cornbread Mob.  The group is at large and has guns.  This subsection of the group are about 45-55 years old, overweight, with dark brown hair and eyes, and another one of them was threatening people who worked at The Motel One office and saying that she, who drives a UNITED STATES Postal Service van is NOT GOING TO EVER DELIVER MAIL TO THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN APARTMENTS BEHIND THE MOTEL ONE.  The problem cannot be because of being bitten by a dog, because the motel and the apartments have a no pets policy, so a mean dog was not the issue.  SOMETHING ELSE was.
